I finally wandered through Werne.
Although our school, Anne Frank Gymnasium, is located in the town of Werne, my host family actually lives in the neighboring town of Rünthe. Lana and I take a public bus to school and back home each day, so we don't typically have a lot of time to spend exploring the town. Today, for me, was Werne Day!
This morning, I took the bus to A.F.G. with Lana as usual. I helped teach a 7th grade English class, and they were learning about the Orkney Islands of Scotland. It was extremely interesting and the students read some of their assignments out loud for me to hear. Everyone did a fabulous job!
After class, I walked into the heart of Werne with Kelsey, Kathryn, Morgan, and Jessica. We stopped to buy phone credits, sampled a few local baked goods, did a bit of window shopping, and ended up at the Stadthaus, which is the town hall. Jennifer, Anna, and Jordan joined us there with Heike (Frau Armbrust) for our meeting with the Mayor. It was a beautiful reception!

& Our view from the Stadthaus!
After our reception with the Mayor, we had some extra time to kill. I knew which bus to take from the Stadthaus in order to get home, so we found a small Italian restaurant nearby where we could grab some lunch. Morgan lives in Werne, so she rode her bike home to eat with her host family, but the rest of us ate delicious pizza in the company of friends.

& Our lunch together!
Tomorrow evening, we are all going bowling and many of our host families are coming along. I can hardly wait!
Tschüss,
Johni (Mrs. L)
